Agartala, April 25: Over 16,000 polling officials, accompanied by police personnel, have set out for their assigned polling stations with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the upcoming East (ST) Parliamentary Constituency poll in Tripura, scheduled for April 26.

The electoral battleground in the East Parliamentary Constituency of Tripura sees BJP candidate Kriti Singh Debbarma facing off against INDI Bloc candidate and CPIM leader Rajendra Reang.

Encompassing all assembly constituencies of Dhalai, North, Unakoti, Khowai, as well as four ACs of South Tripura and three ACs of Gomati district, this Lok Sabha seat holds significant electoral sway.

In preparation for the polling day, polling personnel have been assembling EVM machines at collection centers in Ambassa of Dhalai District, Dharmanagar in North District, and other designated locations.

Saju Vaheed, the Returning Officer for the East (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, affirmed that the distribution of EVMs commenced early in the day.

“To facilitate the smooth dispersal of EVMs and other polling materials, six Receive and Dispersal Centers have been established. Additionally, to ensure peace on polling day and address any potential issues, 15 Clusters and 31 Quick Response Teams have been mobilized. CCTV cameras have been installed in all 379 polling stations in Dhalai district, with a dry run conducted to ensure their optimal functioning. More than 16,000 polling personnel and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed for the East Parliamentary Constituency,” he elaborated.

“We anticipate that all polling personnel will reach their designated stations by 4 or 4:30 PM. I extend my gratitude to all the polling personnel for their dedication and service,” Vaheed expressed.

Furthermore, the RO highlighted that a total of 1664 polling stations have been designated across the East Parliamentary Constituency.

“Stringent security measures have been put in place to facilitate the conduct of free, fair, and peaceful elections,” he emphasized.
