Agartala: November 22: In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the city, the Tripura Police has denied TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee permission to hold a rally in the state capital of Agartala but TMC has been allowed to hold their street corner meet between 12 and 2.30 pm on Monday.

However, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will still be visiting Agartala on Monday.

The police have said that neither the BJP nor the TMC will be allowed to hold rallies or roadshows in Agartala on Monday in view of the ‘escalating tension’ in the city.

The TMC, who is in power in the neighboring West Bengal, has also alleged that its workers were attacked by those from the BJP. 15 parliamentarians from the party have sought an appointment with Union home minister Amit Shah, and plan to hold a dharna in Delhi, against what they have described as ‘brutality’ of the Tripura Police.

TMC leader Derek O’Brien tweeted on Monday morning, “Home Minister, Sir. Brutal attacks on TMC. Even members of the media clobbered in Tripura. Unprecedented attacks. Arrests on trumped-up charges. 16 Trinamool MPs have reached Delhi. Sir, please do give us an appointment this morning. Patiently waiting.”

Trinamool Youth Congress President Saayoni Ghosh was arrested by the Tripura Police on an attempt to murder charges on Sunday. It was alleged that she tried to run over some BJP workers with her vehicle on Saturday evening.
