Gangtok, Dec 08: Sikkim’s Tsomgo Lake, nestled amid the majestic Himalayan Mountains at an elevation of around 12,000 feet, has welcomed its season’s inaugural snowfall, transforming the landscape into a mesmerizing winter wonderland.

The breathtaking scenes of Tsomgo Lake and its surroundings covered in a pristine white blanket have captivated the attention of tourists, turning the hill paradise into a fairytale-like destination. The region experienced a much-anticipated second spell of snowfall, enhancing its charm and attracting visitors eager to witness the snow-covered beauty.

Lukendra Rasaiky, Chairman of Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation, expressed the significance of the Tsomgo-Nathula-Zuluk circuit as a prime tourism destination in Sikkim. The heavy to very heavy snowfall in this circuit holds the promise of reviving Sikkim tourism, creating a captivating allure for travelers.

Tsomgo Lake, spanning over 60 acres, undergoes a magical transformation into a winter wonderland during this period, with temperatures dropping as low as -20°C on certain days. Known locally as the “source of water,” the lake’s origin is surrounded by mystery and local legends, adding to the enchantment of the frozen spectacle.

Despite the challenging cold, visitors who venture to the region during this snowy season are rewarded with the serene beauty of the snow-covered landscape. The lake, frozen and reflecting the crisp winter sky, presents a picturesque vista that captivates the senses.

The snowfall in the Tsomgo-Nathula-Zuluk circuit typically begins by the end of December and extends until April, covering the area in shades of white and glistening ice. While the lake remains unfrozen in October, the arrival of winter signifies a dramatic shift in scenery, with the first snowflakes heralding a season of awe-inspiring natural beauty.
