Kohima, March 18: Amidst heightened tensions in Eastern Nagaland, the Eastern Nagaland Public Organization (ENPO) has called for a significant meeting on March 19, 2024, at Tuensang Headquarters.
In preparation for this gathering, strict directives have been issued, impacting various aspects of daily life in the region.
Meeting Precautions: To ensure the safety and security of attendees, ENPO has mandated that all invitees arrive at the venue using private vehicles and refrain from bringing personal bodyguards.
This measure aims to mitigate potential risks associated with public transportation and large security entourages.
Shutdown Directive: In conjunction with the public meeting, a comprehensive shutdown has been enforced across Tuensang town from 6 am to 6 pm on March 19.
This shutdown encompasses the closure of all business establishments, suspension of vehicular and public movements, and the cessation of educational activities within the town limits.

However, exceptions have been made for delegates attending the meeting, medical emergencies, and essential services such as fire and emergency response teams.
ENPO’s Decision: Despite requests from the legislators’ union to postpone the meeting, ENPO has affirmed its decision to proceed with the scheduled gathering.
The organization underscored the importance of convening the meeting, emphasizing the unavailability of alternative dates due to the constraints posed by the Election Model Code of Conduct for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In a letter to the legislators’ union, ENPO expressed understanding for the challenges posed by scheduling conflicts but urged members to prioritize attendance at the forthcoming meeting. ENPO cited the rescheduling of a previous meeting, originally convened by the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF), as evidence of their commitment to accommodating the legislators’ union’s convenience.
As tensions simmer in Eastern Nagaland, the upcoming public meeting organized by ENPO holds significant implications for the region’s socio-political landscape.
While the directives and decisions may inconvenience some, they reflect efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of the meeting and prioritize the safety of all participants amidst a sensitive environment.
