Meghalaya reports two more COVID-19 positive cases, state tally surges to 11:

Guwahati, April 18: Meghalaya on Saturday has reported two more positive cases for COVID-19.

Both persons are the family member and helpers of the first COVID-19 positive patient of the state who died early on April 15.

A 69-year-old senior doctor of a Shillong based hospital was tested positive for COVID-19 on April 13 and he died on April 15.

The state tally is now increased to 11 including the death case.

Confirming the report, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that, two people who are the family member and helper of the first COVID-19 positive patient of the state have tested positive.

Conrad Sangma tweeted – “Two more positive cases detected taking the total to 10 active cases in the State. Both cases are from the house of the first patient one is family and another a helper in the house.”

Meghalaya has registered 10 new positive cases for COVID-19 in the last four days and all are the family members and helper of the deceased doctor.

Out of the 10 active cases, eight people are the family members of the deceased doctor and two are helpers.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister said that, a total of 617 samples have been tested so far and out of these 541 samples have tested negative and 65 results are awaited.

“Including the fresh two cases, the state has currently 10 active cases,” Conrad Sangma said.

Meghalaya’s first COVID-19 positive patient, a 69-year-old doctor died early on Wednesday.

He passed away at Bethany Hospital in Shillong.
