12,000 Indian nationals left Ukraine, Indian Student Killed

Ukraine, March 1: Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the Evacuation of the Indian students from Kharkiv has become the top priority.

12000 Indian Nationals including students have left Ukraine which is 60% of Indian nationals who were present in Ukraine. First flight with humanitarian assistance to Ukraine via Poland, C-17 IAF plane to leave at 4 am tomorrow for Romania.

“Earlier this afternoon I separately called in the Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine. I reiterated strongly our demand for urgent safe passage for all Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and other cities in the conflict area. No Indian nationals in Kyiv. Evacuation from Kharkiv is our top priority. Nearly 12,000 Indian nationals have left Ukraine which is 60 per cent of Indian nationals who were present in Ukraine,” said Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla during a press conference today on the Ukraine crisis.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla Addresses the Media on Ukraine Crisis and said that “We came out of the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting began with an expression of deep regret and condolences on the tragic death of Naveen Shekharappa, an Indian student who was studying at Kharkiv National Medical University. The PM conveyed his deep anguish on the loss of the life of an Indian national.”

On the other hand, Ukraine on Tuesday condoled the death of an Indian student during intense shelling in the city of Kharkiv and renewed appeals to world leaders to use their resources against President Vladimir Putin to force him to stop the Russian aggression.

Ukrainian envoy Igor Polikha also thanked India for extending humanitarian aid to his country, adding that the first plane carrying the relief materials is expected to land in Poland tonight.

The ambassador also sought to compare the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the “massacre by Mughals against Rajputs“.

We are asking all the influential world leaders, among them Modi Ji, to use their resources against Putin to stop the attack on Ukraine. Russia must stop the bombings and shellings,” he told reporters. After a meeting in the Ministry of External Affairs, the envoy said he extended “deepest condolences” over the death of Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagoudar in Kharkiv.
