Sports, March 17: After the birth of his son Akaay in London, Team India batting maestro Virat Kohli has returned to India.

The star batter, who missed the recent five-match Test series against England, was spotted at the Mumbai airport, marking his first appearance since becoming a father for the second time.

Kohli’s return comes ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season opener, where his team, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is set to clash against Chennai Super Kings on March 22. The 35-year-old is expected to join the RCB training camp soon, gearing up for the upcoming tournament.

Having withdrawn from the Test series due to personal reasons, Kohli spent the past few weeks in London with his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika.

The couple announced the birth of their son Akaay on February 20, expressing their joy and seeking blessings from well-wishers.

Initially named in India’s squad for the first two Tests against England, Kohli decided to opt out of the series entirely.

His last appearance for India was in January during the T20I series against Afghanistan. Kohli’s focus now shifts to the IPL, where his performance will be crucial in securing his spot in the T20 World Cup squad.

Expected to participate in RCB’s annual ‘Unbox’ promotional event on March 19 in Bengaluru, Kohli aims to showcase his form and readiness for the upcoming challenges.

However, according to reports, Kohli’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad is not yet finalized, with selectors deliberating over his role in the T20I setup.
