Kolkata, May 02: The West Bengal Assembly election 2021 result will be declared today (May 2) as the counting of votes begins at 8 am. Despite the election, held amid a raging Covid-19 pandemic, dragging on for over a month, voter enthusiasm hardly showed any sign of waning. In one of the most grueling and arguably the most bitterly fought polls in a long time, an estimated around 80 percent of over 84.77 lakh voters exercised their franchise in Bengal.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mamata Banerjee as TMC heads for a landslide victory in West Bengal. PM Modi also added that the Centre will extend all possible support to the state government to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • The Trinamool Congress has claimed that counting of votes has not been completed for the final round in Nandigram.

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday congratulated “Bengal tigress” and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for “single-handedly” leading her party to victory in the West Bengal Assembly polls. The TMC was leading in over 200 of the 292 seats that went to polls in the eastern state.
  • In a massive twist in the battle for Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee concedes defeat as BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari wins with a vote margin of 1,957 votes. Mamata Banerjee said she will accept people’s mandate in Nandigram, but the TMC chief added that she will move the court against the Election Commission after the EC retracted its statement almost an hour after announcing Mamata Banerjee as winner.

  • BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari has won Nandigram seat in a nail-biting contest against TMC’s Mamata Banerjee. Earlier reports suggested Mamata was winning the seat by a slim margin of 1200 votes.

  • The BJP has won all five seats in Darjeeling district. The Lalimpong seat has been won by GJM (Benoy Tamang) faction candidate.
  • The Election Commission on Sunday told political parties that its ban on victory processions during and after counting of votes is being flouted, and asked them to restrain their workers from violating Covid-19 guidelines. The EC wrote to the heads of recognised parties about its instructions being ignored, amid reports of party workers holding celebrations in states where counting of votes is underway.

  • A BJP office and candidate Mihir Goswami’s car has been vandalized in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
  • TMC leader Sujoy Banerjee is leading from Purulia with 11,522 votes as Congress leader Partha Pratim Banerjee trails with 3,282 votes.
  •  Suvendu Adhikari is leading by around 3,500 votes against CM Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram. The margin between the two candidates has narrowed as it was 8,000 after the third round of counting.
  • TMC candidate Hareram Singh defeated CPIM Aishe Ghosh at Jamuria in Asansol. The seat was traditionally a Left citadel for the last 44 years.
  • Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut congratulated Mamata Banerjee for leading in two-third of the seats in Bengal, according to the latest updates. Raut called the Bengal Chief Minister Tigress of Bengal.

  • National Conference Leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee for the remarkable victory.

  •  SP leader and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav congratulated CM Mamata Banerjee on the decisive victory in Bengal. The TMC is currently leading in 211 seats while the BJP is leading in 77 seats.

  • Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal congratulated CM Mamata Banerjee as TMC maintains lead in 211 seats in the West Bengal Assembly Elections.

  • As of 1:20 pm, the Election Commission website shows TMC with 202 seats, BJP leading on 77 seats, and Independents leading in 2 seats.
  • According to the ECI, the gap between Mamata Banerjee’s vote share and Suvendu’s vote has narrowed down. Banerjee is currently trailing by 3,775 votes in Nandigram.
  • After 6 rounds of counting, Aroop Biswas is leading by 25,022 votes over BJP Minister Babul Supriyo in Tollygunge.
  • The Election Commission has taken serious note of some reports coming in of a congregation of people to celebrate the anticipated victory of respective parties. ECI has directed CS of all five states to file FIR in each such case, suspend SHO of the concerned Police Station and report the action taken immediately of each such incidence.

  • BJP’s Rajib Banerjee is trailing in Domjur against TMC’s Kalyan Ghosh. TMC’s Arup Roy is leading from Howrah Central against BJP’s Sanjay Singh. BJP’s Neeraj Zimba is leading in Darjeeling.
  • TMC is leading in 14 out of 16 seats in Howrah despite the massive defection of leaders from TMC to BJP. TMC is leading in 29 seats in North Bengal while the BJP is leading in 25 seats as of 11 am. The pie chart shows party-wise vote percentage in West Bengal.
  • BJP MP and Minister Babul Supriyo are trailing by about 8,000 votes from Tollyganj. TMC has been maintaining that the only Union Minister contesting would lose in the election. TMC’s Aroop Biswas is leading from the Tollyganj seat.
  • TMC is leading on most seats in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Junglemahal. TMC is also doing extremely well in Howrah, Hooghly, Bankura Purba and Paschim Bardhaman.
  • BJP’s Baren Chandra Burman leading in Sitalkuchi assembly seat in Cooch Behar, where four people died in firing by security forces in the fourth round of polling on April 10.
  • Actor and TMC leader Soham Chakraborty is currently leading in Chandipur and BJP’s Papiya Adhikari trailing by 675 votes.
  • The Election Commission has so far released trends on 120 seats. Of those 120 seats, the TMC is leading on 75 seats, while the BJP is leading on 43 seats.

West Bengal Assembly Election

  • Partha Chatterjee of the TMC is leading with over 2000 votes in Behala Paschim after the first round of counting. BJP’s Srabanti Chatterjee is trailing in this seat.
  • According to the Election Commission website as of 10.10 am, TMC is leading in 68 seats while the BJP is leading in 36 seats.

    West Bengal Assembly Election

  • Bengal minister Firhad Hakim is leading from the Kolkata Port constituency. Actor Kanchan Mallick, a TMC candidate, leading from Uttarpara. At Chandannagar, Bengal minister Indranil Sen is leading with 2,900 votes after the completion of the second round of counting.
  • According to the Election Commission website, TMC is leading in 40 seats while the BJP is leading in 23 seats
  • After two rounds of counting in Bengal’s Nandigram seat, Suvendu Adhikari is leading over Mamata Banerjee with 4,997 votes.
  • As per the Election Commission, early trends at 9:45 am show that Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is leading on 21 seats, while the BJP is leading on 11 seats.

West Bengal Assembly Election

  •  In Chanditala seat in West Bengal, actor Yash Dasgupta is so far trailing by 499 votes, according to the Election Commission website. TMC’s Swati Khandoker is leading on the seat.
  • Now Suvendu Adhikari is leading with 7,287 votes in Nandigram against Mamata Banerjee who has got 5,790 votes so far in the first round.
  • The TMC and challenger BJP were Sunday locked in a neck-and-neck contest in West Bengal as counting of postal ballots was underway, with the ruling party having a slight edge, officials said. While the TMC is leading in 107 constituencies, the BJP in 101. The Left-Congress-ISF candidates are leading in two places.
  • Congress leader Nepal Mahato is currently leading from Baghmundi in Purulia, while cricketer Manoj Tiwary (TMC) is leading from Shibpur(Howrah)

  • According to the latest tally of the counting of postal ballots, TMC is leading in 62 seats while the BJP is leading on 58 seats. The figures have come from 121 out of 292 seats where postal ballots are being counted.
  •  Agnimitra Paul of the BJP is leading in Asansol Dakshin. TMC’s Firhad Hakim is leading in Kolkata Port. Sashi Panja is leading in Shyampukur. Partha Chatterjee of the TMC is trailing in Behala Purba.
  • Rajib Bhattacharya of the BJP is leading in Domjur, Ashok Bhattacharya of the CPI-M is leading in Siliguri. On the other hand, Rabindranath Bhattacharya of the BJP is leading in Singur. BJP’s Babul Supriyo is leading from Tollygunge. Sabyasachi Dutta of the BJP is leading in Bidhannagar.
  • BJP’s Rajib Banerjee, Locket Chatterjee and Babul Supriyo are leading in the initial trends. Postal ballots are being counted now. TMC is currenly leading on 55 seats while the BJP is leading on 51. CPIM is leading on 1 seat.
