Aizawl, Oct 13: Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader and its chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma said that his party would give top priority to farmers if it comes to power in the state assembly polls slated for November 7.

Addressing the ZPM block conference at Khawrihnim village in Tripura border Mamit district, the ZPM leader said that about 60 per cent of the state population is dependent on agriculture and allied sectors.

“ZPM will give topmost priority to the uplift and development of farmers. We will construct paddy fields (wet rice cultivation) with the help of modern technologies and machines as much as possible,” he said.

He said that gentle slope areas would be turned into terrace farming, garden and jhum cultivation.
While hillsides with high vertical rise will be reserved for green forest areas for the development of biodiversity, water resources and good climate, he said.

He said that a proper plan will be made for cluster cattle farming to develop the state in cattle rearing.

Lalduhoma also said that the ZPM will construct three new power dams to generate 274 MW power if it comes to power and the new government will not hike the power tariff for five years.
