Guwahati, Aug 13: Renowned Assamese singer, Zubeen Garg has filed an FIR at the Dispur Police Station alleging attack and abuse by miscreants in Guwahati, on Thursday while travelling back home.

As he reports in the First Information Report, the incident took place at 12.40 am on Thursday night. Garg was returning home from a studio when a car overtook his, with six people near the Ganeshmandir area. These people were drunk, had beer bottles in their hand and they allegedly manhandled Garg with the bottles.

They (the accused) used abusive language and made derogatory remarks against me. They had beer bottles in their hands. They used unparliamentary words when I tried to defend myself,” he said in the FIR.

One of the main accused, Hirok Rajbongshi is purportedly on a run.

Guwahati Police Commissioner MP Gupta, on Thursday, informed that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and all the accused will be arrested soon.

Commenting on the incident, Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We condemn the attack. We have instructed the police commissioner to take necessary action.

Zubeen Garg had been very vocal against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and was recently appointed as the Assam Agricultural Ministry’s brand ambassador, which brought a lot hate his way.
