Kamrup, Sep 18: At least 30 people were injured in a serious head-on collision between two passenger buses at Rampur, located in Assam’s Kamrup district, on September 18.

The accident involved a bus with registration number AS-01LC-9478, which was en route to Guwahati, and another bus, AS-01KC-9799, heading towards Goalpara

. The collision occurred in the early morning hours, sending shockwaves throughout the local community.

The crash, described by eyewitnesses as violent and sudden, resulted in severe damage to both buses, leaving passengers in a state of shock. Local sources reported that the force of the impact was so strong that it not only severely damaged the front sections of both vehicles but also left many passengers trapped inside.

The injured, including women and children, sustained varying degrees of injuries, ranging from minor bruises to critical trauma.

Both bus drivers’ condition has been reported as extremely serious. According to medical personnel attending to them, the drivers sustained severe injuries to the head, chest, and legs.

Their condition is being closely monitored in the intensive care unit (ICU) of nearby hospitals. “It was a terrifying scene,” said a resident who rushed to the site immediately after the crash.

“The impact was so loud that we thought it was an explosion. The passengers were screaming for help, and we knew we had to act quickly.”

In the moments following the collision, emergency responders, including ambulances and fire services, were called to the scene.

However, before they arrived, local villagers and passersby jumped into action, providing first aid and pulling injured passengers from the wreckage. Their quick response is believed to have saved many lives.

“We didn’t wait for the ambulances. We carried people with broken arms, bloodied faces, and even children who were in a state of shock. We just wanted to help,” added another witness.

The injured passengers were rushed to nearby medical facilities in Mirza and Rampur for treatment. As of now, several are reported to be in stable condition, but a few remain in critical care due to the severity of their injuries.

Doctors are doing their best to stabilize the victims, while local authorities have promised swift action in investigating the cause of the accident.

Initial reports suggest that one of the buses may have been speeding, which could have contributed to the crash. The Assam Police have launched a formal investigation into the matter, and further details are expected to emerge as they gather evidence and interview witnesses.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the issue of road safety in Assam, where accidents involving public transport continue to be a major concern.

The authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such mishaps in the future.
