5 travellers from Europe, Saudi Arabia test Covid19 positive in Assam

Assam, Dec 10: Five passengers from Europe and Saudi Arabia tested positive for Covid19 in Assam in the last 24 hours.

A senior official of the state health department confirmed that four of them reached Silchar airport on December 6 (Monday), whereas one landed in Guwahati on Tuesday night.

The samples of all five are being sent for genome sequencing to Kolkata to confirm the variant present as the spread of Omicron has rung alarm bells across the country.

Despite being asymptomatic, the travellers were hospitalized in the best available health facilities and are being monitored.

As per the report, the positive patients despite being “asymptomatic” were admitted to the hospitals.

While one of the passengers, who tested Covid19 positive in Silchar, came from Finland while the 3 other people were from Assam Karimganj district.

After returning from Saudi Arabia, they remained in home isolation. Their RT-PCR reports came on Tuesday.

It has been reported that the traveller, who was found positive at Silchar airport, has been admitted to the Silchar Medical College Hospital. The 3 other air passengers have been admitted to the government civil hospital in Karimganj.

The woman passenger, who arrived at the Guwahati airport on Tuesday night, came from the UK in November. After halting in Amritsar for a while the woman arrived in Guwahati. The 34-year-old female travelled to Guwahati via Patna.

She was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday night after she tested Covid19 positive during Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). She was later tested positive during the RT-PCR test.
