Guwahati, Jan 06: After detection of 60 COVID-19 positive cases from the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G), the administration of Assam’s Kamrup district has declared the campus of the higher education institute as a containment zone.

According to the government order, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the IIT, Guwahati premises.

“In view of detection of 60 numbers of COVID-19 positive cases detected in IIT, Guwahati under North Guwahati Revenue Circle under North Guwahati police station of Kamrup district. Hereby declare the entire campus of IIT Guwahati as containment zone,” said in the order issued by the District Magistrate of Kamrup district.

Kamrup district Deputy Commissioner Kailash Karthik said that – “Yesterday 32 COVID-19 positive cases were detected in the campus of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. Today 28 more COVID-19 positive cases were detected. We have declared the entire campus of IIT Guwahati as containment zone and also declared the Guest House of IIT Guwahati as COVID-19 hospital.”

According to the reports, the infected students of IIT Guwahati had recently returned from their home states.
