Gangtok, Sept 23: The Congress party has announced the appointment of Gopal Chettri as the new president of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, bringing an end to the prolonged vacancy in the northeastern state’s leadership. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made this appointment and also established a political affairs committee in Sikkim, as outlined in an official statement.
In accordance with the directives from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the statement reads, “Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri Gopal Chettri as the President of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect.”

Additionally, a six-member political affairs committee has been formed, consisting of Ajoy Kumar (AICC in-charge of the state), Ranajit Mukherjee, Gopal Chettri, Snumit Targein, Karma Tashi Bhutai, and Kamal Lepcha.
