ODI Australia

Sports, Sept 23: Team India’s remarkable victory against Australia in the first ODI of the three-match series in Mohali has propelled them to the No. 1 ranking in the 50-over format, making them the top-rated team in all three formats of the game. This historic achievement marks only the second time a men’s cricket team has reached the No. 1 ranking in all formats, with South Africa achieving this feat in August 2012.

In this thrilling match, Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul and outstanding batting performances by Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav secured a five-wicket victory for the hosts, giving India a 1-0 lead in the series. This triumph has propelled India (116 rating points) ahead of arch-rival Pakistan (115) in the ODI rankings, making them the top-rated team and creating history in the process.

Australia, with 111 rating points, now sits in third place in the ODI rankings. However, if India wins the series against Australia, they will maintain their top position in the ODI rankings leading up to the Cricket World Cup 2023. While Australia can no longer top the ODI standings after their recent defeat, Pakistan still has a chance if India loses their next two matches.

Team India’s dominance has not been limited to ODIs. They have also enjoyed remarkable success in Test and T20 cricket, allowing them to claim the top spot in the rankings of these formats as well. Earlier this year, they competed in their second World Test Championship Final. Their last bilateral Test series defeat occurred during their tour of South Africa in 2021–22.

Furthermore, in T20 cricket, India has only suffered one bilateral series loss since the 2021 T20 World Cup. They have consistently performed well and even reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, showcasing their strength in the shortest format of the game.

Overall, India’s remarkable achievement of becoming the No. 1 ranked team in all formats underscores their cricketing prowess and solidifies their position as a dominant force in international cricket.
