Manipur Internet

Imphal, Sept 23: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has declared the end of the internet ban in the state, effective today.  Starting today, the internet ban that was in place will be lifted, and Manipur’s residents will once again have access to the World Wide Web.

This decision comes as a significant relief and is expected to have a far-reaching impact on the lives of Manipur’s citizens.

After over four months of internet restrictions imposed by the Manipur government in response to the May 3, 2023, violence, the ban has now been lifted on September 23. The decision to end the internet shutdown comes as the law and order situation in Manipur has improved significantly.

Previously, the Manipur government had issued a show-cause notice to Airtel for providing internet services to mobile numbers that were not on the whitelist. The notice also stated that if satisfactory explanations were not received within the specified timeframe, all services provided by M/S Airtel, including internet services in Manipur, would be shut down without further notice.

Due to the ongoing volatile law and order situation in the state, the Manipur government has suspended telecom services since May 3, 2023, and has been periodically reviewing the possibility of gradually restoring internet services.
