Bengal, Feb, 27: Ahead of polls, the slogan war between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) has intensified ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021.
The BJP on Saturday launched a poster to counter Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) campaign slogan “Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chay” (Bengal Wants Its Own Daughter). BJP’s poster says, “Bengal Wants Its Own Daughter, Not Pishi” and has the faces of the party’s female leaders from Bengal.
‘Pishi‘ is the Bengali word used for paternal aunt.
The BJP tweeted the poster with the slogan in Bengali, “Bengal Wants Its Own Daughter, Not Pishi”.

The poster has the faces of nine female BJP leaders from Bengal, including Agnimitra Paul, Locket Chatterjee, Debasree Chaudhuri, Mafuja Khatun, Roopa Ganguly, Bharti Ghosh, among others.
With the poster, the BJP has attempted to mock Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as ‘pishi-bhaipo‘, which means aunt-nephew.
Several BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have used ‘pishi-bhaipo‘ jibe to hit out at the Bengal CM and her nephew, alleging them of dynasty politics.

TMC slogan launched last week
On February 20, TMC had launched its main campaign the slogan ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chay‘, portraying Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the “daughter of Bengal“.

The TMC supremo’s photo along with the slogan was put up on hoardings across Kolkata.
The TMC is engaged in a bitter political fight with the BJP and projects the opposition party’s leaders as outsiders on “election tourism” to the state. Bengal Assembly Elections 2021.
