Guwahati, April 08: Amritpal Singh’s mother was detained on Sunday, just ahead of the planned ‘Chetna March’ in Assam demanding his transfer from Dibrugarh jail to Punjab.
Amritpal, leader of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ was arrested last April with the National Security Act invoked against him. Currently, he and nine associates are held in Dibrugarh jail.
Balwinder Kaur, Amritpal’s mother, has been sent to judicial custody, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police Alam Vijay Singh, citing preventive measures.
The arrest occurred a day before the ‘Chetna March’ scheduled from Takht Damdama Sahib in Bathinda to demand Amritpal’s transfer to Punjab.

Kaur and other detainees’ kin had been on a hunger strike near the Golden Temple in Amritsar since February 22, demanding their transfer to Punjab.
Apart from Amritpal, his nine associates are also booked under NSA, including Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, and others.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) criticized the AAP government for the police action, condemning the detention of march organizers and Amritpal Singh’s mother.
