Imphal, Jan 24: Arambai Tengol, a Meitei civil society organization, orchestrated a significant gathering at Manipur’s Kangla, where Chief Minister N Biren Singh, 36 legislators, and two Members of Parliament took an oath to protect the state.

This assembly aimed to address the prolonged violence in Manipur over the past eight months.

The meeting, initiated by Arambai Tengol, brought together thousands of participants, including youths, women’s groups, students, and citizens, all dressed in distinctive combat uniforms, rallying for Manipur’s unity and resilience against disintegration.

The total number of Arambai Tenggol volunteers at the event ranged from 50,000 to 80,000.

A video circulating on social media captured the solemn moment when MLAs and ministers, positioned against the Kangla Utra temple, pledged their commitment to the people. Arambai Tengol’s leader emphasized that the objective was to remind elected representatives of their responsibility to fulfill the wishes of the populace.

During the event, Arambai Tengol presented specific demands, including the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with 1951 as the base year, the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants, deportation of all Myanmarese refugees, border fencing, replacement of Assam Rifles with other Central forces, and removal of illegal Kuki immigrants from the Scheduled Tribe list.

Addressing the crowd, Arambai Tengol’s chief highlighted that the Union Home Minister had assured measures to control Kuki militants under the Suspension of Operation (SoO), contributing to restoring peace in the state.

Chief of Arambai Tenggol, Korounganba Khuman, announced that Cabinet Ministers and Opposition party leaders, including Chief Minister N Biren Singh, reached a 6 Points of Agreement.

They collectively signed and provided a 15-day timeline for the implementation of all the agreed-upon points.
