Itanagar, Aug 18: The Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), located near Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully conducting the first-ever Coronary Angioplasty (Radial) Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) procedure in the state. This groundbreaking achievement marks a significant advancement in the field of medical science in the region.

Led by Dr. Rinchin Dorjee Megeji, Associate Professor of Cardiology, and Dr. Tony Ete, Assistant Professor, the medical team at the Department of Cardiology played a pivotal role in carrying out this complex procedure. Their expertise and dedication, along with the support of the cath lab staff, which includes nurses and technicians, were instrumental in the successful execution of the procedure.

The Coronary Angioplasty (Radial) PTCA procedure involves the use of a catheter to clear blocked arteries and improve blood flow to the heart. This minimally invasive technique is known for its effectiveness in treating coronary artery disease and relieving symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath.

Highlighting the significance of this achievement, a hospital official stated that the successful completion of this procedure is a testament to years of relentless effort and a major stride forward for medical science in Arunachal Pradesh. The state-of-the-art cath lab, where the procedure took place, was inaugurated on August 13 by Chief Minister Pema Khandu. This facility has now proven its potential to contribute significantly to advancing healthcare within the region.
