Gangtok, Aug 19: On Friday, a mild earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale shook the serene town of Yuksom in Sikkim. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) promptly reported the seismic activity, providing essential details about the event’s magnitude, timing, depth, and location. While this earthquake was not of a significant magnitude, it serves as a reminder of the region’s susceptibility to seismic activity and the importance of preparedness.

The earthquake occurred on August 18, 2023, at 23:19:33 IST, marking the time when Yuksom residents experienced sudden tremors. The earthquake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, precisely 155 kilometers northwest of Yuksom, Sikkim.

The NCS shared this information through a tweet, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.3, Occurred on 18-08-2023, 23:19:33 IST, Lat: 28.40 & Long: 87.15, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 155km NW of Yuksom, Sikkim.”
