Regarding the Siang River hydropower project, Panyang emphasized the importance of public consensus, stating that the government should respect the community’s decision on dam construction.

Notably, Panyang, a BJP MLA since 2014, was not given a party ticket in the 2019 elections.

However, his candidacy this time reflects BJP’s efforts to rectify past mistakes and brace for strong competition, notably from rival candidate Oni Panyang.
