New Delhi, April 10: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, facing a significant setback after the Delhi High Court dismissed his plea challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the liquor policy case, has now approached the Supreme Court.

This move, just a week before the Lok Sabha elections, underscores the gravity of the situation for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor.

Kejriwal’s legal team is seeking an expedited hearing, with the case scheduled for 10:30 am today.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the Delhi High Court asserted that Kejriwal, along with others, had conspired and actively participated in utilizing the proceeds of crime, as per evidence provided by the ED.

The court further stated that Kejriwal was personally involved in formulating the now-repealed liquor policy and was implicated in seeking kickbacks.

Additionally, in his capacity as the national convenor of AAP, he was allegedly engaged in activities related to the scandal.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, delivering the verdict, upheld the legality of Kejriwal’s remand, asserting that his arrest did not contravene the law.

Following the Delhi High Court’s decision, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj announced the party’s intention to challenge the verdict in the Supreme Court, highlighting their disagreement with the ruling.

Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, in connection with a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy, led to his confinement at Tihar Jail until April 15, following a 14-day judicial custody order.

In another legal development, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court is expected to deliver its decision today on Kejriwal’s plea seeking additional time to consult with his legal representatives.
