Uncertainty Surrounding Chavan’s Next Move

Despite widespread speculation about his BJP affiliation, Ashok Chavan has remained tight-lipped about his plans.

He clarified that he had not engaged in any discussions with political parties and assured that he would reveal his next step within 48 hours. While there are strong indications of his potential entry into the BJP, Chavan has neither confirmed nor denied these rumors.

Rajya Sabha Prospects for Chavan

Following his resignation, there have been suggestions that Ashok Chavan might secure a Rajya Sabha seat from the BJP. However, Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, expressed reservations about this possibility.

He emphasized that sending Chavan to the Rajya Sabha would be disrespectful to the martyred soldiers, citing past allegations of corruption against Chavan by BJP leaders.

Congress Reacts to Chavan’s Departure

Ashok Chavan’s abrupt resignation has caught the Congress off guard, prompting concerns about further defections from the party. In response, the Maharashtra Congress has called for a crucial meeting of party leaders in Mumbai to address the situation.

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam suggested that Chavan’s dissatisfaction with the leadership style of a senior Congress member, namely Nana Patole, might have influenced his decision to quit.
