Assam power

Guwahati, Oct 04: Assam’s commitment to renewable energy is taking a leap forward as the state aims to generate more than 300 MW of solar power by 2026, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This ambitious endeavor is part of Assam’s broader strategy to harness sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources.

Taking to social media, CM Sarma expressed his optimism, stating, “Over 300 MW of Assam’s power needs will soon come from Solar. Our State will play a key role in generating energy from renewable sources.”

The state government has also unveiled a roster of ongoing solar projects, each contributing to the state’s growing energy capacity. Here’s a glimpse of these projects and their estimated completion dates:

  1. Namrup Solar PV Project (25 MW): Expected to be finalized by December 2024.
  2. Sonbeel Floating Solar PV Project (70 MW): Set to be completed by February 2025.
  3. Tezpur Solar PV Project (100 MW): Projected to be operational by April 2026.
  4. Batadrava Solar PV Project (100 MW): The anticipated completion date is November 2025.
  5. Golaghat Solar PV Project (40 MW): Scheduled to come online by September 2025.

This substantial commitment to solar power follows a surge in electricity demand in Assam in 2023. To address this growing need, the Union Power Minister of India, RK Singh, recently allocated 179 MW of power to the state. In an official statement, the Central Electricity Authority explained that this allocation decision stemmed from the government of Delhi relinquishing its power share in NTPC Dadri-I Plant. As a result, Assam is set to receive this additional power supply starting from October 1, 2023, for a one-year period, at the tariff determined by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).

Assam’s push toward solar energy enhances its energy security and aligns with broader national and global efforts to transition to cleaner and more sustainable power sources. As the state progresses with these solar projects, it contributes to reducing its carbon footprint and ensuring a greener and more environmentally responsible
