Barak Valley, Sept 07: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development by inaugurating two newly constructed bridges in Barak Valley on September 7, signaling a new era of improved transportation connectivity. These two vital bridges, constructed at a combined cost of Rs 72 crore, promise to enhance accessibility and promote regional development.

The first bridge inaugurated by CM Sarma is the Badrighat Bridge over the River Barak, linking Barenga and Kashipur. This impressive structure, spanning nearly 1 kilometer, was built at a cost of Rs 58 crore. The Badrighat bridge plays a crucial role in connecting NH-37 and NH-54 on the Silchar Fulertal Road, significantly improving the transport ecosystem in the region.

CM Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to infrastructural development, stating, “Our double-engine Government is on a mission to build 1,000 bridges in Assam by 2026. Today, we have dedicated 3 new bridges to the people of Barak Valley, built at a cost of ₹159 crore. Some of these bridges will provide road connectivity to certain villages for the first time.”

The second bridge inaugurated by the Chief Minister is the 2nd RCC bridge over the River Sonai, constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore. This bridge is set to provide essential connectivity to more than 7,000 residents of Dungripar village in Sonai, facilitating smoother travel and access to various opportunities.

These infrastructure initiatives underscore Assam’s commitment to fostering regional development and improving the lives of its citizens. In addition to the bridge inaugurations, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also set to unveil a range of other developmental projects, including the opening of a convention center. His visit to Silchar’s DSA ground will include meetings and discussions aimed at furthering the state’s growth agenda.
