New Delhi, Dec 19: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly criticized Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee for mimicking the Rajya Sabha Chairman during a protest on the Parliament grounds.

In a tweet, Sarma expressed disappointment at the behavior, stating that the incident reflects the low levels to which the leaders of the oldest political party have stooped. He described it as a live example of how frustration can bring out the worst in someone, calling the situation disheartening and disgraceful.

The entire act of mimicry was recorded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressed his disgust at the incident, calling it “ridiculous” and “unacceptable.”

During the protest at Parliament’s Makar Dwar, Rahul Gandhi was reportedly seen filming Kalyan Banerjee with his smartphone, while the TMC MP, along with other suspended MPs, imitated the Vice President.

As the House reconvened after being adjourned, Dhankhar addressed the incident, emphasizing the distinction between the offices of the Chairman, Rajya Sabha, and the Speaker. He criticized the senior leader for video-graphing another member of a different party and condemned the mimicry of the Chairman and the Speaker as ridiculous, shameful, and unacceptable.

The incident underscores the tense atmosphere and political disagreements within the Parliament, with leaders resorting to unconventional actions during protests and demonstrations.
