Guwahati, Jan 22: The Assam Congress has urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate various alleged scams and instances of fraud involving the family members of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a letter to CBI director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, Congress in-charge for Assam, Jitendra Singh, presented multiple allegations against the family members of Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Congress first raised concerns about the ownership and operation of an international school, Vandya International School, by the Chief Minister’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma. The party questioned how the head of the state could run such a school, emphasizing the potential conflict of interest.

Another allegation pertains to unaccounted money allegedly transferred from a Kolkata-based private company, RBS Reactors, to various firms and companies linked to the Assam CM’s family. The Congress demanded a CBI investigation into the financial transactions involving RBS Reactors.

The third accusation involves a land scam, with R.B.S. Realtors Pvt. Ltd., owned by the Chief Minister’s family, allegedly being part of one of the biggest land scandals in Assam. The Congress urged the government to conduct a CBI inquiry into this alleged land scam.

The Congress also claimed that the Chief Minister’s family is involved in cheating Assamese weavers, running syndicates in the Silk and Muga industry, and purchasing PPE kits during the COVID-19 pandemic in violation of prescribed norms.

According to the Congress, these allegations call for a thorough investigation by the CBI.

Furthermore, the party accused the Assam Chief Minister of shifting an elephant corridor to benefit his wife’s tea estate, Kanchanjuri Tea Estate. The Congress argued that this action was taken during a special cabinet meeting, resulting in the avoidance of eviction despite a Supreme Court order.

Lastly, Congress alleged that supari (betel nut), coal, and cattle syndicates operate under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister, leading to increased market rates and illegal fund collection. The party insisted on a CBI probe into all these allegations.
