Ayodhya, Jan 21: The treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has announced that the old idol of Ram Lalla will be placed in front of the new idol in the Ram Temple.

He revealed that over ₹1,100 crore has been spent on the construction of the temple, and an additional ₹300 crore might be required to complete the work.

Last week, a 51-inch Ram Lalla idol was installed in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, chosen from three idols sculpted by Mysuru-based artist Arun Yogiraj.

Addressing the fate of the other two idols, the treasurer stated that they would be honored and placed in the temple. One of them would be retained for measuring the clothes and ornaments of Prabhu Shri Ram.

Regarding the original Ram Lalla idol, the treasurer mentioned that it holds significance despite its small size (five to six inches) and would be positioned in front of the new idol.

Explaining the need for a larger idol, he stated that the original was not visible from a distance of 25 to 30 feet.

Concerning the temple’s construction expenses, he noted that more than ₹1,100 crore had been spent, and an estimated ₹300 crore might be required for the ongoing work, as the construction of an additional storey is planned.

Discussing the selection criteria for the idol, the treasurer outlined that the chosen idol had a child-like face with a divine glow, fitting the description of “ajaanbaahu” (arms reaching near the knees). He highlighted the meticulous carving of ornaments and the overall beauty of the selected idol.

The decision-making process involved monthly visits to Ayodhya, where the idols were being carved. The sculptors took around four to five months to complete the idols.

The treasurer emphasized the historical significance of the upcoming event, comparing it to Deepavali and expressing the prevailing feelings of love and respect in the country.

Addressing the growing interest of youths in spiritualism, he remarked on their logical thinking and the need for scientific proof.

He also clarified the meaning of Dharma, stating that it represents the underlying laws governing nature and faith, distinct from religion or worship. Giri encouraged understanding and following these principles for the benefit of individuals.
