Guwahati, Feb 20: Assam DGP GP Singh arrived in Dibrugarh today, February 20, in response to a significant security breach at Dibrugarh Central Jail over the weekend.

Unauthorized activities were reported in the National Security Act (NSA) cell at Dibrugarh Jail, prompting the installation of additional CCTV cameras to monitor the situation closely.

Subsequent investigations led to a search operation in the NSA Cell, resulting in the recovery of several unauthorized items, including a smartphone, keypad phone, TV remote with keyboard, spy-cam pen, pen drives, Bluetooth headphones, speakers, and a smartwatch. All seized items were confiscated by jail authorities as part of the ongoing probe.

The incident has raised concerns about the security protocols within the jail premises, known for its stringent multi-tier security system.

It houses detainees under the NSA, including Amritpal Singh, who is kept in solitary confinement.

Investigations are underway to determine the source of the unauthorized items and the method of their introduction into the NSA cell.
