ECI electoral

Guwahati, Sept 01: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a special summary revision of the Assam electoral roll to synchronize it with the state’s newly defined assembly and parliamentary constituencies, according to an official statement released on Friday.

Key dates for this revision process have been disclosed, with the complete list of polling locations set to be made public on November 10. The final electoral roll is anticipated to be published on January 31, 2024, following the release of the draft electoral roll on December 1. It’s worth noting that the updating process will continue until the ECI formally announces the election schedule.

Anurag Goel, Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), outlined the comprehensive steps that will be taken. Prior to the revision of electoral rolls for the newly delineated seats, a thorough pre-revision of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 100% physical verification by field workers will be conducted.

The delimitation exercise is expected to bring significant changes to the electoral rolls. According to Goel, due to the creation of new constituencies and alterations to the boundaries of existing ones, 80% of polling places will remain unchanged, 10% will be relocated, and another 10% will be added.

Additionally, preparations for the electoral process are in full swing. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will undergo pre-First Level Checking (FLC) in all of the state’s districts from September 1 to September 19.

In response to these developments, a significant gathering of politicians from various political parties was convened to address the necessary procedures.
