Dibrugarh, Jan 04: A 17-year-old Hindu girl was allegedly kidnapped by a Muslim man in Duliajan under the Dibrugarh district of Assam.
A missing complaint on the matter was filed by the father of the girl at the Duliajan Police Station. The girl, identified as Jolly Agarwal, had gone to tuition and did not return on January 1, 2023.
There are allegations that the girl was kidnapped by Jahidul Ali who is a local driver from the Barpeta district. The father told the media that his family believes that Ali kidnapped his daughter who was also missing since Sunday.
However, the father of the missing girl did not mention Ali’s name in the complaint.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the Dibrugarh police to investigate the matter.

The Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police informed the media that the case is being investigated. Meanwhile, Assam Police have started search operations. The phone number of the accused is switched off.
More details are awaited on the matter as a multi-district investigation is underway.

Police sources reveal that the phone of the accused was switched off in the Hatigaon area in Guwahati.
Barpeta Police have been asked to launch a search operation in Kalgachia, the native place of the accused.
The police have found two contacts of the accused from Basishta and Dulijan. Meanwhile, a team of Dibrugarh Police is in Guwahati to track down the girl and the accused.
