Karbi Anglong, June 06: Karbi Anglong police have apprehended a suspect and confiscated approximately 1.1 kilograms of heroin concealed in 89 soap cases, hidden within the door panel of a vehicle.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the operation, highlighting the government’s commitment to a drug-free Assam. The incident took place at the Nambor Forest Bridge in Karbi Anglong.

Chief Minister Sarma took to Twitter to announce the successful operation, stating, “#AssamAgainstDrugs @karbianglongpol apprehended a four-wheeler vehicle at number 2 Nambor Forest Bridge and seized 89 soap boxes containing 1.104 kg Heroin hidden in the door panel of the vehicle. The accused driver has been apprehended. Compliments for great work @assampolice.”

The swift action by the Karbi Anglong police underscores their dedication to curbing drug-related activities in the state.

Earlier on the same day, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) collaborated in a joint operation, resulting in the seizure of five kilograms of illicit drugs from a train. The authorities apprehended two individuals at Lumding railway station in Assam’s Nagaon district.

T Boro, an official of GRP Lumding, disclosed that nine packets of ganja, weighing approximately five kilograms, were recovered from the Kanchanjunga train. The two female suspects, who hail from Bihar and were in possession of the ganja, were taken into custody.

The GRP Lumding has registered a case in connection with the incident. The concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies reflect their commitment to tackling drug trafficking in the region.

Furthermore, the Assam Police launched an operation aimed at apprehending drug peddlers, resulting in the arrest of two individuals. The operation also led to the seizure of a significant quantity of contraband drugs with an estimated worth of Rs 16 crores. Acting on confidential information, a team from the Cachar district police initiated an operation in Silchar’s Katagashtal area, during which they recovered approximately 2.2 kilograms of heroin.

Subrata Sen, Additional Superintendent of Police in the Cachar district, provided details of the operation, stating, “We have seized 143 soap cases containing 2.2 kg of heroin and also apprehended two suspects. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs 16 crore. Our investigation is ongoing.”
