Agartala, April 29: A man from Bongaigaon in Assam was rescued by the Sepahijala district police of West Tripura after allegedly being kidnapped by his wife and her cousin’s brother. Hakim Ali was reportedly abducted from his in-laws’ house in Bishalgarh three days before his rescue.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh for his release and allowed him to contact his brother in Bongaigaon to arrange the payment.

According to police sources, Hakim Ali was allegedly confined in an abandoned building in the area by his wife, who hails from Raghunathpur of Bishalgarh, and her cousin brother Arif Ali.

Since no complaint was registered with Tripura police, nobody has been arrested yet.

However, the police have asked the wife, her brother, and another individual identified as Abu Jahan, who was found on the spot during the rescue operation, not to leave the station and have placed them under surveillance.

Hakim Ali reported that he married the woman five years ago while working as a supplier of workers in railway construction. Recently, the couple had been experiencing difficulties, and his wife expressed her desire to observe Eid with her parents. They reached Tripura a day before Eid and performed the rituals at the residence of Arif Ali, the cousin brother of Hakim Ali’s wife.

The incident came to light after Hakim Ali contacted his brother, who then informed the Assam police, who informed the Tripura police about the kidnapping. The West Tripura police subsequently rescued Hakim Ali from his abductors and returned him to his family in Assam.

The police are investigating the case and trying to determine the motive behind the kidnapping. They have advised the public to inform the authorities immediately if they notice any suspicious activity or hear about any such incidents.
