Shillong, April 29: Meghalaya recorded a fresh death related to Covid-19 infection, after a spell of several months, prompting the state health department to urge the public to maintain pandemic-appropriate safety protocols and get vaccinated.

State health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh stated that the government is not presently considering the imposition of any further restrictions on public movement.

However, she added that a meeting will be held next week, chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, to discuss the vaccination status of people in the state.

The health minister also assured the public that the medical infrastructure, which has already been augmented in the state, is capable of dealing with any situation if the ongoing pandemic takes a serious turn.

Meghalaya has been recording a steady decline in Covid-19 cases over the past few weeks. However, with the emergence of this fresh fatality, the state’s health department has emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and following all necessary precautions, such as social distancing and wearing masks in public spaces.

The state has been conducting extensive vaccination drives across all districts to increase the number of people vaccinated against Covid-19. The health department is urging the public to come forward and get vaccinated, emphasizing that vaccination is crucial in the fight against the pandemic.
