These charges stem from the clash between Congress workers and Assam Police after the yatra’s entry into Guwahati was halted by the police, leading to protests.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his concerns on social media, accusing Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, of acts of violence, provocation, and assault on police personnel.

Sarma directed the Assam DGP to register a criminal case against Gandhi, citing social media footage as evidence of the alleged violations.

Sarma criticized the actions of Congress leaders, describing them as “naxalite tactics” alien to Assamese culture. He condemned the provocation of the crowd and the resulting traffic jam in Guwahati.

The denial of permission for the yatra to use main routes inside the city had heightened tensions, leading to clashes between supporters of Rahul Gandhi and the police.
