Mizoram, May 01: The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the leadership of Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), have seized 53 cases and 45 packets of foreign cigarettes smuggled illegally, in the general area of Chhungte in Mizoram on 29th April.

This operation was carried out by a collective team of Assam Rifles and Customs Preventive Force, Champhai based on some specific information.

The approximate market value of these seized foreign cigarettes is Rs. 70,07,000. Besides seizing the contraband item, they have also detained one individual connected with the case.

The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially those along the India-Myanmar Border.

Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have been working tirelessly and continuously exerting their efforts to prevent smuggling in Mizoram.
