Guwahati, April 14: A shocking incident has stirred outrage across Dhubri town, as a liquor party was reportedly held within the premises of the revered Assam Sahitya Sabha’s Dhubri branch office.

Assam Sahitya Sabha, Dhubri Sakha which has been centre of cultural activities and contributions in literature to this area now faces questions on such kind of misbehaviour within its offices.

This occurrence that happened during late-night hangout has placed the Sabha under public watch with doubts arising about ethical standards and responsibility at its top echelons.

Some of the prominent persons who were involved in this scandal were Udayan Chakraborty (the President, Dhubri Sakha Sahitya Sabha), Hemen Chakraborty (Portfolio holder) and Dipak Patowary (portfolio holder of central committee, Asom Sahitya Sabha).

Two professionals out of them including Bhaskar Barua who was formerly an employee at the health department, Assam while one staff member from PHED along with two people have been identified from within these organisations.

The revelry, which commenced on a Saturday night, has not only harmed the reputation of Assam Sahitya Sabha but has also underscored the need to emphasise accountability and responsibility immediately among its members.

The consumption of alcohol during the gathering has further fueled public outrage and raised serious concerns about the Sabha’s commitment to upholding ethical standards.

As the Assam Sahitya Sabha grapples with the fallout from this scandal, the path to redemption remains uncertain.

However, one thing is clear the Sabha must heed the calls for accountability and transparency to regain the trust and confidence of the people it serves.
