Guwahati, May 04: In the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam, eight candidates, including AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, have criminal cases registered against them, as per affidavits submitted during nomination.

Ajmal, contesting from Dhubri, faces two cases related to promoting enmity between groups and acts prejudicial to harmony. However, no charges have been framed against him.

AGP’s Phani Bhushan Choudhury, contesting from Barpeta, has one case related to cheating and dishonestly acquiring property, with no charges framed yet.

UPPL’s Jayanta Basumatary, contesting from Kokrajhar (ST), has one case for causing hurt by obscene acts, with no charges framed.

Independent candidate Dulu Ahmed, contesting from Barpeta, faces 15 cases related to various charges, including cheating, forgery, and defamation.

Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal’s Amitabh Sarma, contesting from Guwahati, has five pending cases, including sedition and criminal breach of trust.

Assam Jana Morcha’s Shukur Ali, contesting from Dhubri, has one case related to criminal breach of trust.

Independent candidates Faruk Khan and Alakesh Roy, contesting from Dhubri, face one case each related to forgery and illegal payments respectively.

The elections for Dhubri, Barpeta, Kokrajhar (ST), and Guwahati constituencies will be held on May 7.
