Guwahati, Nov 10: A BJP rally from Magurmari to Latani in Assam’s Samaguri on November 9 turned violent as unidentified assailants opened fire, leaving several injured and raising safety concerns ahead of the polls.

Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami and BJP leader Suresh Borah were at the rally when the violence erupted.

Jitu Goswami recounted the incident, stating that stone-throwing from the house of ex-Congress councillor Ismail Hussain escalated to gunfire, targeting his vehicle.

Although unharmed, Goswami expressed concern for colleagues, one critically injured, and urged police action.

Congress leader Rakibul Hussain countered, alleging the BJP incited unrest to influence the elections.

Hussain claimed Ismail Hussain was unjustly accused and detained after being injured himself, with reports suggesting the BJP instigated the shooting near Ismail’s residence.

He criticized recent police transfers and hinted at political interference, calling for a fair investigation.
