Guwahati, Feb 16: Assam’s Education Department has taken a significant step forward by introducing bilingual textbooks in Science and Maths for Classes VI and VII.

The move aims to facilitate better comprehension among students while also enhancing their proficiency in English. These textbooks, available in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, and English languages, seek to bridge language barriers and make learning more accessible.

In another pioneering initiative, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has embarked on a journey towards complete digitization of student attendance records for higher secondary examinations.

For the first time, the attendance of students appearing for the Higher Secondary (HS) examination 2024 will be recorded online. The HS exams, scheduled to commence on Monday, February 12, will run until March 13, 2024.

A total of 2,80,216 candidates from across the state are set to appear for the HS examinations, comprising 1,39,486 male candidates and 1,42,732 female candidates.

Among these, 2,06,467 students belong to the Arts stream, 54,287 to the Science stream, and 17,582 to the Commerce stream. This diverse participation reflects the widespread interest and engagement of students across various disciplines.

It’s worth noting that the AHSEC had earlier announced a Pre-Final Test Examination for HS second-year students, slated to be conducted in December 2023.

This pre-examination initiative was aimed at preparing students effectively for the upcoming HS board examinations, providing them with an opportunity to assess their preparedness and address any areas of weakness well in advance.

Overall, these initiatives underscore Assam’s commitment to improving the quality of education and modernizing the examination process.

By embracing technology and adopting innovative teaching methods, the state’s education authorities are striving to create a conducive learning environment that empowers students and equips them with the necessary skills for success in an increasingly competitive world.
