Guwahati, Feb 12: Assam’s Finance Minister, Ajanta Neog, is gearing up to present the state budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, February 12.

This marks her fourth budget presentation, with Neog emphasizing the budget’s realistic outlook.

The budget session of the state assembly commenced on February 5 and is set to conclude on February 28. In the preceding fiscal year, Neog presented a budget projecting an aggregate expenditure of approximately Rs 3.21 lakh crore.

In other significant developments, the Assam cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved the Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024.

This legislation aims to combat fraudulent healing practices prevailing in the state, with a focus on providing relief to victims of such practices.

The announcement of this bill’s approval was made by Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah following a cabinet meeting held at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Guwahati on Saturday.

Furthermore, the cabinet has sanctioned the establishment of the Wildlife Safari & Rescue Centre in the Namdang Reserved Forest, located in Dibrugarh district.

With an estimated cost of Rs 259 crore, this project aims to offer rescue and rehabilitation services for the local fauna, bolstering conservation efforts in the region.
