Guwahati, Feb 11: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh, in a post on microblogging site X on February 11, emphasized the crucial role of peace in driving economic growth and fostering comprehensive development while improving the quality of life and alleviating poverty.

“Peace remains the sine qua non of economic growth, all-round development, quality of life, and poverty alleviation,” asserted DGP Singh, reiterating Assam Police’s steadfast commitment to maintaining a peaceful environment in the state.

DGP Singh’s remarks follow NITI Aayog‘s recognition of Assam’s progress in poverty reduction. Recent data from NITI Aayog indicates a significant decline in the Poverty Headcount Ratio over the past nine years.

From 36.97 per cent in 2013-14, the estimated Poverty Headcount Ratio has dropped to 14.47 per cent in 2022-23, marking a notable improvement.

DGP GP Singh emphasized the police force’s dedication to upholding peace and order in the state while preventing crimes that could hinder economic growth.

“Every policeman is committed to maintaining a peaceful environment in the state and preventing crimes that could hamper the state’s economic growth. Positive and clear directives from the Honorable Chief Minister have greatly influenced our efforts in achieving these goals,” stated Singh.
