New Delhi, Dec 03: While the counting of elections is still not over, the Bharatiya Janata Party has swept three heartland states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in a dominant electoral show, stunning the Congress which drew consolation from a big win in Telangana.

Madhya Pradesh: Shivraj Singh Chouhan Shines Again

In a resounding victory, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan led the BJP to triumph in Madhya Pradesh, surpassing the anti-incumbency factor. The BJP is currently leading in 163 seats out of the 230-member assembly, well beyond the majority mark of 116, leaving the Congress trailing with leads in 65 seats. Chouhan, leading in Budhni by an impressive 51,000 votes, credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the party’s stellar performance.

Chhattisgarh: BJP Looks Set to Dethrone Congress

In Chhattisgarh, the BJP is poised for a robust victory, displacing the Congress in what initially appeared as a closely contested battle. Leading in 56 seats, the BJP has crossed the majority mark of 46, while the Congress is trailing with leads in 32 seats. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, initially behind, is now leading in Patan constituency against his nephew, BJP candidate Vijay Baghel.

Rajasthan: BJP Capitalizes on Anti-Incumbency

Capitalizing on anti-incumbency, the BJP is on track to wrest control of Rajasthan from the Congress, following the trend of a ‘revolving power door.’ Currently leading in 116 seats, the BJP outpaces the Congress, which is ahead in 69 constituencies. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s rivalry with Sachin Pilot appears to have added to the Congress’s challenges.

Telangana: Congress Claims Consolation Prize

Telangana became the Congress’s consolation prize as the party secured a clear win against the BRS. Leading in 64 seats, the Congress outperformed the BRS, which is leading in 40 seats. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, denied a hat-trick by the Congress, is trailing in Kamareddy by 3,335 votes but leading in Gajwel by 11,714 votes. Congress leader Revanth Reddy is ahead in Kamareddy, emerging as the party’s CM face.

Mizoram election results will be announced tomorrow, respecting the state’s observance of Sunday.
