Meghalaya assembly polls

Shillong, Dec 12: A team of Election Commission officers will go to Meghalaya this week to review preparedness assembly polls due next year, an official said on Monday.

The office of the chief electoral officer withinside the state has sought the deployment of 119 groups of significant armed police forces for the 2023 meeting polls, he stated.

“An EC expenditure team will visit Meghalaya this week and hold review meetings with state and central government agencies,” Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor told media.

He stated the EC team will keep discussions with officers of various agencies, which include the police, earnings tax, and excise departments.

“We have sought deployment of 119 groups of significant armed police forces as there are 782 inclined polling stations and 402 had been diagnosed as critical. These numbers are dynamic and might alternate as in line with the scenario at the ground,” Kharkongor stated.

The state election office is likewise gearing up to sign up as many eligible electors as possible.

Another senior officer of the CEO’s office stated campaigns for the enrolment of citizens had been efficaciously held at Tura, Jowai, and numerous different district headquarters wherein access to the latest electors is “now no longer satisfactory”.

Meghalaya has over 21.11 lakh eligible voters till early last month and of them, 10.68 lakh are women.
