Teesta River

Gangtok, Oct 28: After days of relentless hard work and coordination between the army and the Border Roads Organization (BRO), a Bailey bridge has been opened over the mighty Teesta River in Sanklang, Sikkim.

The official inauguration of the bridge was a momentous occasion, attended by the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Dzongu, Mr. Pintso Gyatso Lepcha, along with officials from the BRO, the Army, and the District Administration.

Earlier this month, four vital bridges connecting the Dzongu region to the rest of Sikkim were washed away during flash floods, severely disrupting communication with the district headquarters in Mangan. In response, locals constructed a foot suspension bridge in Sanklang, and later, the BRO collaborated closely with the army to construct two Bailey bridges.

The process involved extensive river training works, the construction of four abutments, and the development of approach tracks for the bridges.

The newly inaugurated Bailey bridge is of immense significance to the Dzongu region, serving as a vital lifeline that restores road connectivity and provides much-needed relief to the local residents grappling with the aftermath of the flash floods.

The people of Dzongu have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated personnel of the BRO, recognizing their tireless and unwavering efforts.

The restoration of these critical bridges not only signifies a triumph over nature’s challenges but also underscores the unyielding determination of the BRO and the army to serve the people of Sikkim.
