Cachar, April 17: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to conduct her inaugural election rally in Cachar, situated in the Barak Valley, on Wednesday, aiming to mobilize support for the party’s candidate contesting the Silchar seat.

The significance of Banerjee’s rally in the state amplifies as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday evening, will also conduct his first rally in Assam, addressing the gathering in lower Assam’s Nalbari district.

In contrast, Mamata Banerjee’s meeting will take place at the town club field in Cachar.

The TMC has nominated Radheshyam Biswas as its candidate from Silchar. Biswas previously represented the seat in the lower house of Parliament in 2014 under the All India United Democratic Front ticket.

However, he lost the seat to BJP candidate Rajdeep Roy in the 2019 elections.

Ripun Bora, the TMC state president, confirmed that Mamata Banerjee’s schedule currently includes only one rally.

He mentioned, “However, we will request her to conduct an additional meeting for the third phase of the elections.”
