Jaipur, Dec 12: Bhajan Lal Sharma has been officially declared as the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan, as announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. The decision was made following his victory in the recent elections from the Sanganer assembly seat, where he defeated Congress’s Pushpendra Bhardwaj with an impressive margin of over 48,081 votes.

The proposal for Bhajan Lal Sharma’s candidacy for the Chief Minister’s position was put forth by prominent BJP leader Vasundhara Raje, who herself was in the running for the top post. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh formally announced Bhajan Lal Sharma as the chosen candidate.

Addressing the media for the first time after being selected as Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his commitment to meeting the expectations of the people. He assured that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP-led government would work towards the holistic development of Rajasthan across all sectors.

Other notable contenders for the Chief Ministerial position included Gajendra Shekhawat, Mahant Balaknath, Diya Kumari, Anita Bhadel, Manju Baghmar, and Arjun Ram Meghwal. Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa have been appointed as Bhajan Lal Sharma’s two deputies.

Vasudev Devnani, an MLA from Ajmer and former state Education Minister, will serve as the Speaker. Bhajan Lal Sharma, who has an impressive political background, has been the State General Secretary for the BJP four times.

In the recently concluded elections, Bhajan Lal Sharma secured a substantial victory in the Sanganer assembly seat, polling 145,162 votes against Pushpendra Bhardwaj of the Indian National Congress (INC), who garnered 97,081 votes.

This marks his first term as an MLA, and his political journey has been closely associated with organizations such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Bhajan Lal Sharma, hailing from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, emerged victorious in a closely contested race, defeating former Jaipur Mayor Ashok Lahot.
