Imphal, Jan 15: The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi and the Indian National Congress, advances through Manipur, with a special focus today on the Kangpokpi and Senapati districts before moving into Nagaland.

The political campaign, initiated on January 14, 2024, from Thoubal in Manipur, aims to address diverse social and economic issues confronting the nation.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi formally inaugurated the Yatra during an event in Khongjom, Thoubal, attended by various national and regional Congress leaders.

Rahul Gandhi, addressing the gathering, criticized the BJP government over the state’s prevailing conditions, highlighting the collapse of governance infrastructure and the divisive aftermath since June 29.

Expressing his dismay, he stated, “I’ve been in politics since 2004, and for the first time, I visited a place in India where the entire infrastructure of governance has collapsed. After 29th June, Manipur wasn’t Manipur anymore; it got divided, and hatred was spread everywhere, lakhs of people suffered loss.”

Criticizing the absence of Prime Minister Modi in Manipur during the troubled times, he added, “People lost their loved ones in front of their eyes. And till now, the Indian PM has not come here to wipe your tears and hold your hand. It is a shameful thing. Maybe for PM Modi, BJP, and RSS, Manipur is not a part of India.”

Rahul Gandhi portrayed Manipur as a symbol of BJP’s hate politics and ideology, emphasizing the state’s significance in reflecting the BJP’s viewpoint and approach.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra employs a hybrid mode of travel, utilizing buses for extended parts of the journey due to time constraints and health considerations of the party’s elderly leaders.

The campaign seeks to champion social justice, combat unemployment and inflation, and counteract divisive politics with dialogue and understanding.

Covering 14 states and 85 districts over 66 days, concluding on March 20, 2024, in Mumbai, the yatra strategically engages citizens across India’s east-west corridor, positioning itself as a crucial initiative for the Congress party’s electoral preparations ahead of the national elections.

During the yatra, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the importance of listening over speaking, acknowledging the pain and loss experienced by the people of Manipur, and pledging to restore what they value most.

The campaign advocates for ending the sale of public sector units, supporting farmers, and seeking justice for women wrestlers and individuals imprisoned for asking questions.

As the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra advances through Manipur, it carries a message of unity, justice, and the pursuit of social, economic, and political well-being for the citizens of the nation.
