Guwahati, Jan 15: President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a three-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya from January 15 to 17, as outlined by a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The itinerary includes significant engagements, infrastructure inaugurations, and participation in local celebrations.

The visit commenced with the inauguration of the Meghalaya Games at Tura’s P A Sangma Stadium on January 15, showcasing President Murmu’s support for sports and youth engagement. On January 16, she addressed members of Self-Help Groups at Baljek Airport in Tura, emphasizing her commitment to grassroots-level empowerment and community development.

Virtual participation marked another highlight as President Murmu laid the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex in Tura, symbolizing the initiation of a vital infrastructure project to enhance administrative efficiency in the region.

The visit underscored a focus on local infrastructure and tourism development.

President Murmu virtually inaugurated the upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road, promising improved connectivity and commerce.

Additionally, she laid foundation stones for the Shillong Peak ropeway and tourist accommodations in picturesque villages like Kongthong, Mawlyngot, and Kudengrim, with initiatives designed to foster sustainable tourism and economic growth.

The pinnacle of President Murmu’s visit was her participation in the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival at Taralangso, Diphu, in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on January 17. This event holds cultural significance, celebrating the traditions and heritage of the local Karbi community.

She becomes the first President to spend a night in the Garo Hills region and the inaugural state guest to reside in the newly inaugurated Raj Bhavan in Tura.
